Join us at the Darwin Entertainment Centre on Saturday, 1 October 2022, TROPiCON for a fresh and exciting addition to the Territory events calendar, and celebrate all things geek and pop culture.

LIVE ★ STAGE | EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI)

TERMS & CONDITIONS 

Entry Fee
 

Simply purchase a ticket to TROPiCON to be eligible to enter in this Cosplay Competition. 

Expression of Interest 
 

Participants can express their interest by emailing the completed template to 3xileon@gmail.com

  • Name and Age (if you are under 18, including details of your parent/legal guardian). 

  • Preferred name. 

  • Pronouns. 

  • Contact number. 

  • Email address.

  • Details of proposed activity (singing, acting or dancing etc.)

  • What equipment is needed (mic stands etc.)

  • Any backing tracks? Please link as an MP3 in your email. 

  • Light colour for the performance (choose a colour, multiples not allowed). 

  • How would you like us to introduce you on stage?

  • Would you be able to make it to an in-person pre-screening (after 5PM Business Days) leading up to the date of the event? If not, would a Zoom link or Instagram call or submission of video be available to GCC)? 
     

Pre-registrations will be open from 10 September 2022 and will close 24 September, 2022.

 

Registering on the day
 

Any registrations after 24 September 2022 will not be accepted.

Competition


There is no competition aspect for this segment. 

Pre-convention screening

Each participant will receive an email invite to a pre-screening performance at LOCATION TBA . From there, participants that are eligible to perform during the convention will be shortlisted and contacted as such. Members of the GCC are invited to attend for triaging but all pre-screening will be lead by the Cosplay Sub-committee.

Indirect pre-screening

Each participant will receive an email invite to a pre-screening performance at LOCATION TBA . If the performer is not available on that day, they will be contacted to schedule a Zoom call with members of the GCC and be triaged online. This will only occur on one other day aside from face-to-face pre-screening to accommodate for members of the GCC. From there, participants that are eligible to perform during the convention will be shortlisted and contacted as such. Members of the GCC are invited to attend for triaging but all pre-screening will be lead by the Cosplay Sub-committee.

 

At TROPiCON

 

LOGISTICS

All performers are to report to the Cosplay Competition Check-In from 10am until 11am.

Registered participants can collect their corresponding performance number from the Cosplay Check-In Desk. Performance numbers dictate the performer’s order of appearance during the event.

 

Important Times on the Day - INDICATIVE (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

  • 10am to 11am – Performer check-ins at Cosplay Check-in booth

  • 12:15pm – Performers to meet outside the backstage walkway to be shown to a green room where they wait to be called and warm up etc. Performers may join the Kpop Dance Challenge on-stage if they wish and can leave and return to the space at any stage before their allotted time.

  • 1pm to 1:45pm – Live ★ Stage segment. All participants are to be present before the opening announcement begins.

  • 1:45pm to 2:00pm - Announcement of Cosplay Competition winners

 

Terms & Conditions of Entry

  • Aspiring performers of all ages and talents are eligible to enter eg: singing, dancing, acting etc.

  • Performances must be pre-screened prior to the date of the convention.

  • There will be no opportunity for walk-in performers – they must be triaged beforehand.

  • Aspiring performers must have a ticket to the event to be eligible to perform.

  • Aspiring performers must be present at the Cosplay Check-in booth to receive their performance numbers that dictate their order of appearance.

 

General Guide

  • TROPiCON is a family friendly, all ages event – no nudity is permitted. To avoid any disappointment, please ensure your costume attire is appropriate for a General (G) audience.

  • For your safety, footwear must always be worn.

  • No mock or play fighting is permitted outside of pre-designated performance spaces.

  • Please be considerate of other attendees when posing for photos and take care not to obstruct pathways and entrances.

  • Kindly seek permission of fellow attendees, before you take any photos or videos of them.

 

Weapons & Props Guide

  • All weapons and props must be presented to TROPiCON staff or security on entry for inspection.

  • If a weapon or prop is judged to be potentially harmful/ dangerous for general use around the event, it must be removed from the event immediately. Staff & security reserve the right to re-access them at any point during the event.

  • No real firearms or replica firearms which could be easily confused with the real thing are permitted.

  • When travelling to and from TROPiCON, if carrying props which may cause alarm to members of the general public, please consider covering them during your journey.

  • Empty water guns/ nerf guns without ammunition are allowed, no use of projectile weaponry is permitted.

  • Skates, rollerblades, skateboards or similar moving items will not be allowed into the venue.

 

Performance Guide

  • All performers, once confirmed, need to guarantee their presence at the event.

  • If a performer cannot attend, the slot will be given to another eligible performer that has been pre-screened by the GCC.

  • Performers must provide GCC all technology regarding their performance, eg pre-recorded music, any other props etc.

  • Performances must cater to a family-friendly audience. Performances with nudity, indecency or strong language will not be successful at pre-screeening.

  • All performers must complete pre-screening before being allowed to perform. No walk-in performers will get a timeslot on stage.

  • Performers must complete the Live ★ Stage registration form and purchase a ticket to the event.

Communication

Additional communication, if needed, will be conducted via discord, email and through public notifications released on the website or through social media.

Withdrawal

Participants/ Competitors are permitted to withdraw from the competition subject to notifying either the Promoter before the event.

Cancellations or Rescheduling

This segment may be cancelled or rescheduled for any reason. The promoter and staff will endeavor to provide participants/ competitors with a minimum of 12 hours’ notice in case of cancellation or rescheduling.
